On the morning of April 8, Jing Junhai, Party chief of Jilin province, Hu Yuting, deputy secretary of the CPC Jilin Provincial Committee and acting governor of the province, Zhu Guoxian, chairman of the CPPCC Jilin Provincial Committee, and other provincial leaders arrived at Xiangwan Park in Changchun city to attend the voluntary tree planting activity along with other participants. Jing stressed the necessity to follow the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, thoroughly implement the important speech delivered by Xi in the voluntary tree planting activity in the capital, firmly establish the concept that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets, continue to foster a strong atmosphere of afforestation, create a Jilin model for a beautiful China at a faster pace, and comprehensively improve the construction level of a strong province in ecology.

This is the 2nd consecutive year that provincial leaders have participated in such activity in Xiangwan Park. At the planting site, Jing Junhai, Hu Yuting, Zhu Guoxian and other provincial leaders joined in the planting activity together with officials and residents. Digging pits, building soil berms and watering saplings, they planted saplings of different types of trees including apricot tree, red maple tree, Chinese ash, Chinese elm and purple-leaf chokecherry tree. Everyone was busy amid a warm atmosphere. While planting trees, Jing talked with officials and other people present and asked them the variety, growth cycle and daily maintenance of saplings. He also urged relevant departments to strengthen follow-up management and protection to improve the survival rate of planted saplings. With the joint efforts of provincial leaders and other participants, 500 trees were planted in the park.

Jing inspected the ecological protection of Xiangwan Park along the lakeside and required Changchun to ensure the mutual reinforcement between ecological protection and ecotourism development, focus on building itself into a sponge city and a forest city, strictly protect the natural ecosystem, scientifically develop natural resources, step up efforts in planting trees and storing water, create an ecology landscape surround by lucid waters and forests, and foster a good living environment for residents.
During the tree planting activity, Jing said that afforestation creates benefits for not only our generation but also future generations, and we must continue our endeavor in this regard with consistent and persistent efforts to make green a defining feature of Jilin. We should advance the 3rd Ten-Year Plan for Building a Green and Beautiful Jilin, increase both quantity and quality of forest resources, and further enhance our capacity of carbon sequestration and absorption. We should vigorously advocate planting trees and protecting forests, steadily promote the nationwide voluntary tree planting campaign, and sow the seeds of ecological civilization in the entire society, among the Chinese youth in particular. We should make greater efforts in ecological and environmental protection, promote concerted efforts in cutting carbon emissions, reducing pollution, expanding green development and pursuing economic growth, advance the critical battle against pollution, focus on improving the quality of the environment, make solid progress in building Jilin into a strong province in ecology, and build a strong barrier for safeguarding national ecological security.
It is reported that 351 million volunteers in the province have planted 1.594 billion trees since the onset of the country's voluntary tree planting campaign 41 years ago.
